Prompt: Song Fic
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I’ll crawl home to her
Junior blinked at the unexpected light. It burned into his brain, stabbing his eyes. He raised a hand to shield his face from it. Where was he? He tried to remember, but his brain gave him nothing for a solid 10 seconds. The sounds and smells of the place were stale and unfamiliar.
The house. A child. Images flashed quickly through his mind. Otis, Seth, Kolby and Alex. The sun was rising. The child. His arm. He gasped at the remembered pain, and looked down, cracking his eyes open just enough to look out through his lashes. His arm was bandaged in a clean white wrap. No blood, and surprisingly little pain.
He blinked a few times and got a look around. Everything was white Sterile. Clean.
Why was he still alive? Where was Otis. He had hurt them?
“Good to see you awake, Mr. Duke.” A voice said. It was mechanically altered, like through a speaker.
“Where am I?” Junior tried to ask, but his throat was dry and it came out as a raspy wisp of sound.
“We will get to that later,” the voice said. It was either a very young man or a rather deep voiced woman. He looked at this left arm and found an IV there. He lay on a white sheeted bed in a white-tiled room with white walls, broken only by the black door and the blank glass window that undoubtedly hid the speaker.
“Tell us how you are feeling,” the voice said.
US. So there were more. Of course there were.
“Like death warmed over,” Junior croaked.
“That is to be expected.”
“Where are the others,” Junior demanded. His memory ended at the moment he closed the door at the house. Otis and the others had been walking into the dawn then nothing.
What is happening,” he asked, his voice a little stronger.
“What other’s Mr. Duke,” the voice asked. “Are there others we should know about?”
“Who are you?” Junior demanded. “I am not answering any questions until I get some answers.”
“You are not in a position to make these kinds of demands.”
“Like hell I am not,” Junior growled.
“We will try this again when you wake up,” the voice said.
As the world went soft around the edges again, junior thought of Otis. He would find them again. No matter what it took.
